3 crafts

Hi guys,

I set this whole Sunday aside, so I could do some catch up, with this course. I was easily able to add a picture from my computer (the picture of my cat) , but spent about (no kidding, or exaggeration) 4 hours trying to add a picture from Flickr onto my blog, with absolutely NO success (unless you count in success in getting completely frustrated). I was able in the end to add the picture through as a blog posting, but not through the add a picture option). Every time I try to upload a picture from the "add a gadget" - "picture" - "configure image" option, i receive the same message - "Please specify an Image". I thought by copying the address in the address bar, it would specify the location. I also tried to right click on the image and "copy image location". This proved to be unsucessful too.

Has anyone else encountered this problem. If so, how did you overcome it. I had a few hissy fits (which didn't help the matter - except they made me feel a bit better for 5 seconds).

Please, Please, Please help.

Anna

  1. Hi Anna, Just to clarify .... where you say:
"Every time I try to upload a picture from the "add a gadget" - "picture" - "configure image" option, i receive the same message - "Please specify an Image". I thought by copying the address in the address bar, it would specify the location. I also tried to right click on the image and "copy image location". This proved to be unsucessful too."

.... you have been in Blogger, with Blogger's "Add a gadget > Picture"? I tried this and did NOT get a "configure image" option.
Like you, I clicked on a flickr photo and tried unsuccessfully to add the url from the page address bar.
However, what did work for me was right clicking on the photo, clicking Properties, then copying the URL there into the "From the web" box in the "Add a gadget > Picture" facility in Blogger.
See that I've done this twice. The first (larger) one was when I'd clicked on the picture to bring it up to full size. The second (smaller) one was when I did 'Right Click > Properties' on the smaller image in the album format.

I know it's stating the obvious but you did make sure to delete the http:// that appears in the "Add a gadget > Picture" 'from the web' url spot by default? That is a really annoying thing that has tripped me up on many an occasion.

If I'm completely on the wrong tram and/or none of above is helpful or works, put a note on my blog under the blue/green clouds photo and we can talk it through some more.

I know the first time i did this I just went round and round in circles, exactly as you have done. Even now, it's not that bad, but I do have to take it v e r y s l o w l y :-/

My biggest problem was geeting into flickr - I LOATHE yahoo - every time i want to try to log in to something of theirs they seem to call the ID something diiferent - one day it's the email address, one day it's youre name .... I almost gave up on this exercise because of 'that'!!! ;-/

  2. I'm sorry that you ended up spending 4 hours getting frustrated! I think that the directions above may help - typically you can only "blog" an image from Flickr, or save it or use the URL as above. Good luck! Fiona
